i have to say that seo elite is my favorite utility for seo (been using it for over 3 years).  brad callen knew what he was doing when he wrote this piece of software.  seo elite makes it so easy to see what kind of competition you are up against.  and  studying your competitors links shows you what gword really wants- and i’m gonna tell you straight up, it’s the inbound links.  on-page optimization is great for the long-tail method of seo, but if you want to rank for competitive keywords you need to know how to plan your linking strategy, and seo elite is the tool for it.

this post is here to promote my new website where you can buy neem products for well below retail.  It is an oscommerce shopping cart that i spent a long time working on, because it does not come out of the box search engine friendly.  but what do you expect, its free.

i changed the title of this blog from coolest guy on the planet to manny leger.  in the past, i have done this with other web sites and it did not change my ranking in gword.  i am testing to see if that will be the case with my blog now.

i have not posted in a while, after hitting the #2 spot for a while i felt pretty satisfied with what i had accomplished.  i am going to keep up with the contest for sure, but for now i am just going to tweak my site a little.

#2, can you believe that? just in case this moment never repeats itself, or my hosting service takes a crap on me like it has once already, i have documented this joyous occasion (click on the gif to enlarge it):

after about a week of some apparent technical difficulties  with the blogrox server, i finally have my blog back.  i figured it was a goner and had actually given up on it.  i was slamming myself for not hosting my coolest guy blog on my own server, and was having a lot of anxiety about this whole thing.  but here it is, and guess what?

#3 in gword!  how is that for a comeback?

i guess i entered this game a little too late. none of my higher pr backlinks were counted toward my site so my pagerank is now “0″. not that pr is anything spectacular (i unloaded my 2 cents on pagerank earlier).

i think in all actuality gword could do away with that little green line on the toolbar and that would remove a lot of the misconceptions about what it is and how it actually affects your ranking and other stuff. it’s funny how we get caught up in such things as outdated and impertinent as pagerank.

if gword got rid of the publicly viewable pr, would that not help slow the link selling industry? i doubt it would stop completely- some link brokers also use ilq to determine a sites value. but most link buyers have no clue what ilq is, so at least link sales would slow down. maybe not.

oh well, maybe next go-round i will have a pr7

#4 in gword this morning, and my coffee turned out very well- today looks promising.

it is widely accepted in the seo community that inbound link text should be varied if you want to rank for your keyword-

i happened to notice that bf’s inbound links containing the keyword phrase cgotp are few. he has a lot of links, but most of them use the anchor text “bf” (not abbreviated, of course). i am going to try to get more links with my name in the anchor, hopefully as many as i have with “coolest guy on the planet” for the text. i have a few, and this blog is #1 for my name (not hard to do of course, how many “manny leger’s” could there possibly be). maybe gwords algorithm will favor my site if i do this- i would like to progress past #4 and 5.

this is all speculation, of course. but maybe if i speculate long enough i will become the “buddha” of seo

i love gmail. it is the coolest free web based email service on the planet. up until a few days ago, you had to be “invited” to gmail by someone else who already had a gmail account. now anyone can sign up on the gmail homepage. i hope it does not end up like yahoo- you can’t get a decent username with yahoo, they are all used. yahoo mail pales in comparison to gmail anyway, in my humble opinion. i like the way gmail gives you the option to archive, tag your mail under different categories that you choose, and updates in real time without having to refresh the page. not only does yahoo not do any of these things, but i always have problems getting my mail- it sometimes takes a long time to get a message that i sent to myself from another account, and yahoo’s spam filter stinks. it marks non-spam as spam and half the time does not send actual spam to the spam box. gmail does an excellent job of catching spam, though i have been noticing it has missed a couple of spam messages as of late.

i hope gmail’s service does not start going downhill.

i hit #4 in gword today. i have been toggling back and forth between 5 and 7 for the past week or so, after recovering from a sudden drop to #9 and 10 positions (some on-page optimization gword apparently was not too happy with). this is the first bit of progress since july 4th, when i first hit the #5 spot.

even if i do not hold the #4 spot, i at least feel a little better knowing that i was in it. i am the closest i have ever been to being the coolest guy on the planet- let me savor the moment.

disappointing, but that’s ok. after all, it is just the “estimated” date. it will happen soon enough. i am still toggling between 5 and 6 in gword…. getting kinda monotonous.  i have not been working on my link building here lately, so i don’t suppose i can rightly expect to magically progress to a higher position.
